Cooking has always been a passion of mine. When I was little I would always ask to bake cookies or some other sweet treat!
In late 2011 I became a vegetarian by choice. I was (and I still am) the only vegetarian in my family. I had been asking my parents if I could go vegetarian for the past year before I actually became one. They finally allowed me to become vegetarian – under one condition – I had to cook all of my own meals when they ate meat. Now (currently in 2013), my family eats at least a 50-75% vegetarian diet at home because of my influence.
Initially, this was a huge challenge for me. I relied on a lot of frozen vegetarian products and faux meats. So although I was eating an animal-friendly diet, it was not a healthy one. This diet lasted for about a year.
In the end of 2012 I decided to eat healthier, more natural and more organic food. This really started getting me even more interested in cooking and the vegetarian lifestyle.
In early 2013 I took my vegetarianism a step further – eating vegan as much as possible. It actually proved itself quite easy and very delicious!
Now, I am a complete vegan, starting in mid/early May. I am enjoying this lifestyle, even with all of its “challenging” parts. My family tries very hard to be accepting and I appreciate them for it.
Along with my 3 sports, soccer, softball and cheerleading, I try to maintain a healthy lifestyle and diet. As a young teenager it can be challenging at times, but it is very rewarding.
